17 Jul Employee spotlight – Harry Rutter
Harry Rutter is a mechanical & electrical (M&E) manager at MiCiM. Having studied Building Services Engineering at the City of Westminster College whilst working as a trainee electrical engineer, Harry joined MiCiM in 2021 as an apprentice MEP manager and has progressed rapidly since.
What are you working on at the moment?
“I’m currently working on the practical completion checklist for the data centre upgrade in Slough that I’ve been working on in recent months – we finished our construction and commissioning activities a month early and we’re now preparing handover documentation for the client – and have also been contributing to a project bid which is a new experience for me.”
What is your proudest achievement in the last 12 months?
“Definitely my promotion to M&E manager. I really appreciate the trust MiCiM have put in me, despite being young, without the decades of experience some of my colleagues have.”
What do you hope to achieve in the next 12 months?
“I’m going to be working on a new project in the London area as the project lead, so my main goal is its successful delivery. On top of that, I want to continue to learn as much as possible!”
What is your favourite thing about working on data centre projects?
“I really enjoy the fast pace, and the fact that you sometimes encounter complex MEP systems and challenges that you wouldn’t come across in generic commercial fitouts.”
What particular strengths do you bring to a mission critical project?
“I already have experience in a variety of environments, including labs and live data centres, which helps me be adaptable and think on my feet. I also feel like I’m a great communicator, which is really important in our line of work, where I’m dealing with a variety of client representatives, contractors and suppliers. Finally I’m really enthusiastic about my work and enjoy what I do, and I think that makes a difference too!”
What do you think sets MiCiM apart from other construction consultancies?
“I think MiCiM’s willingness to develop young talent is really positive and a key strength of the business, and I think we have some really strong leaders.”
